I’m thinking my niece never thought she’d have another Barbie cake in her lifetime. Just goes to show you never know what’s going to happen. When it comes to gift giving, I like to be unique. I don’t want to just hand someone money and say, ‘Here you go, happy birthday.” There are times when I do that but likely due to lack of time. But I enjoy giving something that means a little bit more. So, for my niece’s 21st birthday, I started my search for a cool gift on Pinterest. Surprisingly, a search for 21st birthday gifts didn’t yield many interesting results. But a few caught my eye.
The pin that caught my attention most was an image of a birthday cake decorated with two Barbies. One was laying in a bathtub, the other appeared to be throwing up in a toilet. They were surrounded by bottles of alcohol and sprinkles. It depicted a scene many of us have been involved in at one time or another in our lives. I thought…that would be fun! Not re-living that scene but making a cake like that! 😉
So, to work I went. I picked up two Barbies, one blonde that resembled my niece and the other, a brunette, playing her best friend. I found a toilet and sink set at Toys ‘R Us and little jelly candies that were supposed to be bottles of coke but they looked like beer bottles! Perfect. Toss on some sprinkle throw up and we’re good to go.
I positioned them to look as though Allie (the best friend) was holding back Danielle’s (my niece) hair as she straddled the toilet. If only this Barbie’s legs would bend! I would have had her kneeling over the toilet but because her legs stood straight out, she had to straddle it. I hope I never see anyone in this actual position. Haha!
I have to say the cake received rave reviews and the waitress even took a picture so she could do something similar when her children turn 21.
I had so much fun making it! It won’t be long until I’m searching for a blonde, wavy-haired Ken for my son’s 21st. 🙂
