Maker & baker…inspired by nature.
I believe “God” or a divine “being” created the beautiful, natural world we live in using his imagination, creativity and skills. My hope is that I can use the same to share my creations with you. I remember, as a child, forming bowls from clay fresh out of the ground and decorating them with dried flowers and berries. I remember making dolls from corn husks and leaves. And I remember my Mom making us homemade apple dumplings and cinnamon rolls.
As an adult, I’ve continued using natural elements to craft up fun things like dream catchers, pottery, wooden signs, digital art and photography. The more natural, the better, in my eyes.
Same goes to baking. I bake (and cook) almost everything from scratch. It just tastes so much better. I’ve tried going back to the simple “bag” or “box” cookies on occasion but they’re never as good. I prefer to know what’s in the food we eat. The less preservatives, the better. And don’t even get me started on margarine. 😉
What do I do when I’m not making, baking or blogging?
I have two beautiful, smart, hard-working children that I couldn’t be more proud of and a husband who never ceases to amaze me. We love to hang out at home around a fire or listen to music but you can also find us outdoors walking the dogs, kayaking, shopping or eating out.
I like to exercise. I enjoy traveling, seeing new views, trying new things and meeting new people. And I like to keep my brain healthy by taking online courses, reading books and listening to podcasts.
The blog name?
When our son was little we went to a festival where he was able to go into the Home Depot tent and build something. Before he began building, they gave him a little orange apron. He later wore that apron to do crafts and build with all sorts of messy things and eventually that apron was passed down to his little sister. She’s put much mileage on it, covering it with more paint splatters, saw dust and pottery mud. She still uses it occasionally only she has to tie it around her waist, folding the top down because it won’t fit otherwise.
Hence the name of our little space here on the web, Little Orange Apron.
