If you’ve spent any time in the woods this summer, you likely came across moss growing on the ground or around trees and, sometimes, on trees. I have a friend that LOVES moss so every time I see it, I think of her. Well, her birthday was a little while back and I really wanted to make her something special. We both love crafting and we often give each other homemade gifts. This past Christmas she gave me the most adorable set of snowmen made out of old sweaters. It was something I’d pinned on Pinterest, knowing I’d probably never make it. She noticed and made them for me! I was thrilled…they are so stinkin’ cute!
So, naturally, I wanted to give her something she’d love. For some reason, I had an image of the first letter of her name, ‘M’, covered in moss. I headed to the store, bought the M from Hobby Lobby and the moss from Walmart and the rest came from my wood stash in the backyard.
It was really pretty simple to put together. First, I glued the moss to the letter. I cut the a piece of pallet board into three sections, all the same length. I then sanded them down a bit and stapled two thin pieces of wood to the back (going vertical) to secure them all together. The only thing I didn’t think about was how long the staples were compared to the piece of pallet wood and, yeah, I actually stapled the whole thing to the table! Haha. I was worried at first, but it came up pretty easily. But now I had staples sticking out of the front of the wood! Well, luck was on my side because when I put the letter up to the wood, it perfectly fit over all of the staples so I just pounded the letter down on the staples and it was secure too! Gotta’ love it when something works out so smooth like that!
I finished it by stapling some sticks around the edge creating a frame.
She loved it and has it hanging above her bed. So I’m sure every night she thinks of me now. 😉 Friends are the best, don’t you think?! Have you made anything for a friend lately?
