Did you know there’s such a thing as pie crust you don’t have to roll out?! Well, neither did I.
For me, fall always brings a craving for apple pie. I had apples on hand but no pie crust. What’s a girl to do? Well, I know, the answer should be simple: make your own crust. The problem with that is I can sometimes be a lazy baker and don’t have the desire to put a lot of effort into my creations. I just want something yummy that’s…simple and quick, so I can move on to other things.
So I did a little search for easy-to-make pie crust. Did I find a winner! You don’t have to roll this pie crust out, you just simply mix the ingredients in the pie dish and press it down with your hands. Now, the entire pie I made actually came from two separate recipes: one for the bottom crust and then an apple pie crumb recipe for the rest of the deliciousness.
Bottom Crust: The bottom pie crust can be found at http://m.allrecipes.com/recipe/18427/easy-pie-crust. It has great reviews and I totally agree. It was so simple and had a great texture and flavor. I used half whole wheat flour and half all-purpose flour. I like to try to get as much whole grain in my desserts as possible. It somehow makes me feel a little less guilty for eating it. Ha!
Crumble and pie filling: This was seriously so yummy. I used MacIntosh apples and again, whole wheat flour. The recipe can be found at http://www.kitchme.com/recipes/apple-crumble-pie.
This combination of two recipes was delectable. It was definitely one of the best apple pies I’ve ever made. We actually managed to eat the entire pie before I had to throw any out, which doesn’t always happen around here…surprisingly.
I hope you get to try this and if so, let me know below what you think! ‘Tis the season to be eatin’! 🙂
