Yep, we did it! We looked at an old farmhouse last month, put in an offer, offer was accepted, we did a little work to get it to pass inspection and we’re closing today!
Wow, buying a house is not easy these days. There’s so much paperwork and if you own your own business and pay yourself in cash, well, let me just say, good luck. The bank wants to trace every dime that went in and out of our accounts for the last few months and since Craig pays himself in cash and sporadically, it’s not been a simple approval. We’ll be rethinking how he pays himself from now on.
Anyway, on a more exciting note…we’re moving! We haven’t moved in over 11 years. The home we live in now is a side by side duplex that we purchased with my father-in-law. He lives on one side and we live in the other. It’s really worked out great but Craig’s construction business has outgrown the space we have. So when we saw this house with a huge pole barn that’s in our school district, we had to take a look.
We both agreed right away, it seemed like the right property for us. It has two out buildings and an attached garage. FINALLY…I won’t have to clean so much snow off of my car!!! It’s on almost three acres. It’s very centrally located and close to town. Downfall? It’s on a pretty busy road. And we have dogs. That makes me nervous but we have plans for fencing. That’ll be one of the first things we do. On the plus side, a busy road is great when you run a business…thinking business sign. (You always have to look for the silver lining.)
We have lots of plans for the home including some major renovations. I took my sister to see it last week and after explaining all the changes, she said, “So, I’m not really seeing your new house?” I said, “Haha, uhh, not really.” The way it looks now is not how it’ll look in a year. I’m so excited to be buying an old farmhouse and be able to share all of the exciting projects with you all! It’s going to be challenging but what’s life without challenge? B.O.R.I.N.G. That’s what.
Until next time, my friends.
